Starting a web development process sets a massive apparatus into motion. There are internal discussions, external supplier contacts, strategic considerations, user testing, design considerations, back-end analyses, and that is just the start.

Before you do this, I would ask you to answer one vital question: Is this really necessary? People tend to start new development projects when existing solutions are very usable and only require a modest change in design or content. In this case, it would pay off to work on systematizing, production and employment of the content and communication on the web-page, instead of constructing a completely new technical solution.

If a new technical solution is in order, you should cover these topics, in this order:

• Project management - who will coordinate this project and ensure its direction and progress?
• Technical specifications - what do we need, and how do we need it?
• Comparing technical solution suppliers - who and how shall we choose?
• User-friendliness - how do we ensure that it is used and that it works?
• Graphic design - how do I maintain our graphic identity without adversely affecting practical performance?
• Relationships with suppliers - how do I get suppliers to do what I want them to do?
• Structure and content - how do I arrange and present information so that users find what they are looking for?
