Web Strategy

Before you set up, or redesign, a web-site, you need to know what you want to achieve and - not least -what will compel readers to visit your site. Here are some strategic considerations.

Successful web-sites are those that are based on the company's overall business strategy, that are coordinated with the company's other media channels and that have a clear concept. You need to answer these questions before you start:

  • Goals : What are the goals of this web-site?
  • Concept : How do I employ the Internet to achieve these goals?
  • Audience : Whom do I aim to reach with this web-site?
  • Message : What do I want to say to the audience?
  • Competitive advantage : What will attract visitors to this web-site as opposed to competitors' web-sites?

This section presents a number of tips for each of these issues. Click on the words in the preceding list, or on the bullet points to the left.

Once these questions are answered, you can start thinking about actual web-site production.
