Goals

What is the purpose of the web-site?

A company's goals with its web-site are often directly related to the company's overall business goals. A shop that sells bicycles in "the real world" will want its web-site to contribute to more bicycle sales, for example.

At the same time, a web-site can and should be the object of more concrete, web-specific goals. Depending on your business, this can be:

  • Distributing information about products
  • Receiving reservations/orders
  • Diverting call center or secretary functions
  • Selling products or services directly
  • Recruiting members
  • Informing the media
  • Reporting to investors

Oftentimes, one web-site will need to meet a number of goals.

TIP: State your goals clearly and unambiguously! Clear and unambiguous goals expedite web-site production.

TIP: Quantify your goals! Establish some numerical goals that you would like to reach (not "the web-site shall take reservations" but "the web-site shall take 50 reservations every month"). This allows you to measure the performance of your web-site, and prove that you are reaching your goals.

When your goals are established, you can start thinking about a web concept.
